Day to day Trip

•             Duration of Hike: 5–7 hours

•             Distance Covered: ~11 km

•             Geographical Zone: Montane rainforest

Your journey commences from your designated accommodation in Arusha or Moshi with a Fully English-speaking guide and in a private vehicle, as you drive through coffee and banana plantations en route to the Machame gate. You may even be able to see tropical birds. Trekking to the Mountaine forest the first segment of the hike takes you up very gradually through the dense rainforest. After all the formalities you will be driven up to the starting point at montane forest where you will enjoy a packed lunch. You will hike towards the Machame campsite afterwards.

Arrival and Tent Setup

Your camp will also be set up for you at Machame and your crew will bring you to the mess tent for a warm meal. Expect chilly 2,835m mountain air, in place of the orthotic smell of lowlands.

• Distance: Approximately 5 km.

• Environment: Moorland and heath.

Transitioning from Rainforest to Moorland After a delightful breakfast, trek into the paused forest region which comprises of tranquil moorlands and graceful heaths filled with swirls of mists. Alternatively, enjoy the stunning outlines that highlight the surreal-type of vegetation that spans from massive zoogeographic region to surrealistic moorlands filled with Giant Senecios as well as Lobelias. Looking Upward While Ascending the Ridge: As you are on your way to the Shira Plateau, the views begin to take shape, whether breathtaking or jaw-dropping, but all will leave you enthralled. Especially define views to the Kibo massif. Relax at a grandiose rock and snag a lunch whilst taking pictures of the plains below that seem to be endless as far as the eye can see. Getting to Shira Camp 2 The Shira camp 2 is located at 3750m and is perfect spot for watching the sunrise and sunset from Meru and especially around this time. The skyline is free from the city lights and this allows the night time sky to dazzle your eyes and provide you with more channels to get acclimatized to the surroundings.

Hiking Time: 6 - 8 hours

Distance: 10 kilometers

Habitat: Alpine Desert

This day is crucial in adapting to the higher altitude. Rest on the lunch break at Lava Tower and remember that a short stay at the Lava Tower goes a long way to expanding your body’s capacity to work efficiently in thin air at higher altitude. By this time, most people are ready to enter the low-pressure zone and start moving towards of Lava Tower. After the Lava Tower lunch head to the not-so-high Barranco valley. Beginning with the Barranco valley, landscapes will forever remain marked in their minds, with towering Giant Groundsel plants and sparkling green river gulleys. To make things simpler, not only will this maxim even raise your chances of summiting, it will even improve your chances of summiting at all. Making way to Barranco Camp (3960 m), one of the most beautiful campsites on Kilimanjaro. This is how people spend their evenings; enjoying a hot meal while looking forward the next day when you will climb the infamous Barranco Wall.

•             Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

•             Distance: ~5 km

•             Habitat: Semi Desert & Valleys

Morning Thrill: Barranco Wall Jump into the ascent of the Barranco Wall immediately after breakfast. This exercise does not require any technical climbing equipment, but you will need to use your hands to keep your balance in a few places.Do not rush to the top; before you do so, there is ample opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of Kibo and the plains below and to take pictures.

Short but Scenic Trek

The pathway develops through mountains and river valleys all the way to Karanga Camp, which you will reach by around noon.This short day is to aid in your acclimatization to enhance comfort during the summit push.Karanga camp At an altitude of 4035 meters, Karanga has breathtaking sunsets that are cast by the ridges of Kilimanjaro. Make your way to the evening where you will spend time in the mess tent and hydrate yourself properly — both are necessary for a good climb.

Climb to Barafu Camp For the summit attempt, hike upwards on the rocky slopes to get to Barafu Camp which would be your base for the attempt. You will be able to see the vast landscape of an alpine desert with obliterated vegetation and an unearthly scenery.  Barafu Camp: Summit Outline Discussion and Rest. Shall reach the Barafu Camp once it reaches noon, after the lunch your guide will carry on a detail brief covering relevant aspects of the hike, the most important of them being what is the route strategy, weather conditions expected-could it aid or act as a barrier, and any relevant cautionary steps that might be necessary.  Sleeping early is key, seeing as you will be awake around midnight to be up for the desired final minute crucible which would be hitting Uhuru Peak.

: From the Barafu Camp, measuring 4,673 metres, to Uhuru Peak which towers at 5,895 metres and finally to Mweka Camp at a height which is 3,100 metres.

•It takes approximately 5 to 7 hours to reach the peak as an ascent.

•The journey to Mweka takes between 5 and 6 hours with an approximate time being closer to the 6-hour mark.

The expected weather from the start of the climb up to the peak can start from the artic conditions with potential sub-zero temperatures, followed by moorland conditions. Aiming For the Peak – Summit Attempt While it Is Dark Outside. Set the alarm for 11 p.m. at around midnight and get ready for a hot drink alongside snacks which are light in weight. Wear headlamps and multiple layers of clothing in order to shield yourself from the expected temperatures that can drop below the freezing point. Journey Back to Mweka Camp

Once you have reached the top and captured the view for a few moments, you will travel back to the Barafu Camp to have brunch and from there commence the journey back to Mweka Camp with a 3,100m height .With every passed moment, the altitude will cause breathing to be deeper and will provide a chance to appreciate the done achievement.

  • The trek consists of 7 days of exploration. An outline of the activities for each day is given below:
  • Day 1-2: The trek starts at Machame Gate going to Machame Camp with the last stop being Shira Camp 2 which is further up.
  • Day 3: This day consists of a hike to the Lava Tower which serves as a great viewpoint, and after that you will descend to Barranco Camp.
  • Day 4-5: Next, continue the hike through Barranco and Karanga Camps to Barafu Camp where you will start your last preparations towards the summit.
  • Day 6: Reach the top of Mount Kilimanjaro before making your way down to Horombo Hut and back to Marangu Gate.
  • Day 7: Finish your hike by making your way down to Mweka Gate.
  • Inclusion: This package includes the complete payment of all park fees, meals, guides, porters, camping equipment, and transfers to and from the park gates.
